A Mess of a Magic

by Mark David

So what do you do when you have unintentionally bungled things up and your magic trick goes wrong? We have read so much about the greatest, the easiest, the most amazing, the most stunning magic tricks and the secret behind them, but do you know what to do when things messed up?

Magicians may seem supernatural or mystical for some, but in truth we are still human and we make errors in judgment and other earthly mistakes. so when you are out there, performing your heart out, you have practiced till you drop and then… lo and behold you made this one slip-up, what to do you wonder?

Once you have realized that you made some kind of blunder during your act, decide immediately if it is a minor or a major one. And then you can do either of these three steps to somewhat cover it up. With the use of the same props, go and try for a different trick. Second, you may act nonchalant and continue with your act or third, you can discontinue with the bungled trick, crack a good joke (this time make sure it's a good one!) , store the props away and then proceed to the next trick you have prepared.

If the slip-up occurred at the start of your act, you can go and exchange to a different act utilizing the same props. However, if it occurred right when you are in the middle of your act, do not be too anxious, chances are the audience never noticed your slip-up. If you were spinning on some captivating patter while doing so, the crowd may have been concentrating on you and you must not forget that what you see is different from what the crowd sees when you perform.

When your slip-up happens near the end of your act, you crack a good joke while at the same time storing your props away. Say whatever you think the audience will find hilarious and then proceed to your next trick. The important thing is that you know how to laugh at yourself as well because pursuing a career in magic means you will bungle up now and then. You just hope it's not that often. The real trick there is, is to be ready and prepared with a lot of back up tricks to cover up your mess.

The trick in doing good magic is of course as we all know it, is practice, practice and practice. Practice your acts, your tricks and patter and you'll be able to perform your magic well. But is that enough? Definitely not, if you want to be the confident, with commanding presence kind of magician that you have always wanted to be, you need to do a lot more than practice your performance.

Make sure that you are enthusiastic in your performance. You cannot just expect people to be completely awed just because you got the trick right. You need to develop trust with your audience and make them like you as well. You must not be reserved when performing, you need to be eager and passionate about what you are doing. Do it this way and you'll see how people will respond to you so positively. You will enrapture them with your performance and will never take their eyes off you.

Act real cool and confident even if you feel like shaking all over with fright. Stage fright is pretty common in stage performers and you will experience this too but make sure that even if you feel like jelly inside, outside you look confident and very courageous and totally know what you are doing. Practice in this case will help boost your confidence and make people think you have been always this great a magician.

Make other great and famous magician as sort of inspiration. Think of the greatest magicians you have ever known and let them inspire you to do great as well. Learn how they became so legendary in the field of magic and illusions and see if you could also do the same. Once you see yourself as this wonderful, great amazing magician then you are one step closer to your dream.

Hans Klok and his Divas of Magic (now that's something else!) rose to the challenge of doing as many illusions as they can in five minutes. And they were just mesmerizing! Their performance is totally spell binding, the five minutes it took me to watch this video was indeed worth it, not to mention the gorgeous women or divas with him wouldn't fail to take anyone's breathe away.

Hans Klok is a Dutch magician who began to dabble in magic as a teenager and then was receiving awards by the time he was 16 years old. Well he has surely honed his craft well judging from his 5minute magic mania. This guy is truly astounding as a performer and one of the best when it comes to these kind of illusions.

No, this is not your usual math magic trick. There is no calculations to be made, a person only has to think of a number and there you are reading his mind and be able to tell the correct number he was thinking. Your friends will be astounded and never would have thought you could read minds so well.

Prepare a mechanical pencil. Break the lead at about one and a half inch in length. After you have broken a piece, get a tape and tape that broken piece at the back of your thumb nail. Make sure it is secured tightly with the lead sticking out of your thumb nail just half an inch or so. This is all the preparation you will be doing.

Next step is to show your amazing trick to a friend. Be sure to bring a mechanical pencil with a notebook with you and of course the lead sticking securely on your thumb nail. Now ask for a volunteer and then tell them to think of a number, it could be a single digit, two or even three. Then ask them to focus real hard on the number they have chosen.

Pretend to write your prediction of the number on your notebook while they are focusing intensely on their number. Then tell them you have successfully read their mind and have written down the number they have chosen. Then let them hold your mechanical pencil.

When the volunteer is holding your pencil, ask him what number he chose. You can then spin a story of how you have read their mind and know the number they have chosen, you can even ask why they have chosen that particular number.

All these would just be misdirection while you actually write down with the lead taped on your thumb, the number the volunteer has told you.

You then show them what number you have written down. They will be awed and impressed and as ling as you practice it well, they will never know when you have written the number at the end.

Quick Change Artist

by Mark David

They call themselves the quick change artist and oh boy! were they ever quick! So what does a quick change artist do? Quick change is "a performance art where in the artist, normally magicians or dancers, changes outfit so quickly – within a split of a second in front of a live audience". This act is normally done covered in objects like curtained hoop, umbrella and a shower of confetti or glitter. Quite extraordinary actually. And the artists have so many techniques and styles to boast of.

One famous quick change artist is the Venetian Ennio Marchetto, who was said to be able to change in more than 50 characters in just a single hour. He was famous for using cardboard and paper as part of his costumes and imitating so many diverse characters like the Mona Lisa and Shakira.

The couple you are about to see in this video made the art seem flawless and easy to perform and leave you wishing your girlfriend/wife can dressed as just as fast. Enjoy and prepare to be mesmerized.
